RESOLUTION OF INTENT TO PARTICIPATE IN IMPROVEMENTS TO WALLACE AVENUE.

BY COUNCILOR STOVER:

WHEREAS, St. Louis County intends to improve the county state aid road known as Wallace Avenue in Duluth; and

WHEREAS, the city has expressed an opinion that the dimensions of the proposed improved street be changed from those currently shown on plans; and

WHEREAS, the matter has now been referred to the state commissioner of transportation for resolution by way of the process set out in Minnesota Statutes; and

WHEREAS, the city has planned to participate in the Wallace Avenue project by making some related improvements, mostly storm sewer installation, in the approximate amount of $186,000;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by city of Duluth that when use of the commissioner of transportation's dispute resolution system has resulted in a decision on the contents of the plans of the project, the city intends, at that time, to proceed to participate in the construction and to pay for the city's portion of the project and pay for the same in the approximate amount of $186,000.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution is intended to memorialize the city's plan to go forward with the city's portion of the Wallace Avenue project as expeditiously as possible once the current issue over street width and parking is resolved by the commissioner. Stormwater management has been a problem in the area for many years, and the city intends to upgrade that system whatever the outcome of the dispute about street size.
