RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF A $85,080 GRANT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, FOR EXPENDITURES RELATED TO POLICE PERSONNEL EXPENSES, TECHNOLOGY AND CRIME PREVENTION INITIATIVES AND TRAINING.

BY COUNCILOR STENBERG:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby authorized to accept a grant from the U.S. department of justice in the amount of $85,080 for a grant period of September 21, 2000, to December 31, 2002, for expenditures related to police personnel expenses, technology and crime prevention initiatives and training; all grant funds will be deposited in Fund 215, Agency 200, Org. 2461, Revenue Source, 4210.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to execute such agreements as necessary to implement the project on behalf of the police department.


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution accepts grant money from the U.S. department of justice to implement the local law enforcement block grant program.  This is the fifth year the department has participated in this grant program.  The grant requires a $9,453 match.  Allocation to activity areas are: $13,000 for overtime, $19,500 for training expenses, $34,033 for equipment / technology, $6,000 for crime prevention and educational materials, $22,000 for renovation and contracted services.
