RESOLUTION APPROVING DEDA AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF MINNESOTA PURSUANT TO DEDA RESOLUTION 00D-63.

BY PRESIDENT GILBERT:

RESOLVED, that, pursuant to city council Resolution No. 99-0239, the agreement between the Duluth economic development authority (DEDA) and the state of Minnesota in an amount not to exceed $50,000, as approved by the DEDA board at its meeting of November 21, 2000, pursuant to DEDA Resolution No. 00D-63, a copy of which is on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. _________________, is hereby approved.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  Approval of this resolution allows for the application by DEDA to the state department of trade and economic development (DTED) for a $50,000 contamination investigation and RAP development grant relating to the environmental investigation of the Atlas Cement site located at 2402 Commonwealth Avenue adjacent to the USX steel plant. This resolution also commits $50,000 in DEDA funds for the required local match. This is in addition to $10,000 previously committed by DEDA pursuant to DEDA Resolution 00D-56 for engineering services of RLK Kuusisto relating to the site. USX has agreed to pay up to $130,000 toward the environmental investigation. The resolution also authorizes DEDA to enter into necessary agreements if the state funding is offered.
