RESOLUTION ACCEPTING REIMBURSEMENT OF NOT TO EXCEED $15,000 FOR POLICE PURCHASE OF LAPTOP COMPUTERS THROUGH A GRANT WITH THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC SECURITY, WORK FORCE SERVICES BRANCH, UNDER THE JUVENILE ACCOUNTABILITY INCENTIVE BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM.

BY COUNCILOR STOVER:

        RESOLVED, that the city is hereby authorized to accept grant monies from the Minnesota department of economic security, work force services branch, of not to exceed $15,000 to reimburse the police department's police purchase of laptop computers and related equipment used in the police/probation partnership segment of the juvenile accountability incentive block grant; all revenue to be deposited into General Fund 0100, Dept. 200, Org. 1620, Revenue Source 4230.

        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Scott Lyons, chief of Duluth police, is hereby authorized to execute such agreements as are necessary to implement the project on behalf of the Duluth police department.



STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution accepts sub-grant monies of up to $15,000 from the Minnesota department of economic security through its juvenile accountability incentive block grant program. The overall grant program is administered by arrowhead regional corrections and involves other agencies besides Duluth. This $15,000 is to reimburse for police purchase of laptop computers for the police/probation partnership. This equipment will allow for flexibility for our school liaison officers to communicate with arrowhead regional corrections juvenile probation officers using a secure internet program named "JUV E NET." The laptop computers will also increase communication abilities with other department units. Our liaison officers operate out of various sites - schools, juvenile offices, neighborhood offices, etc.
