RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN AMENDMENT TO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF MINNESOTA, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, TO OPERATE A REGIONAL HAZARDOUS MATERIALS EMERGENCY RESPONSE/CHEMICAL ASSESSMENT TEAM FOR A CONSIDERATION OF $40,000 DURING THE 2001-2002 FISCAL YEAR.

BY COUNCILOR STOVER:

        WHEREAS, the Minnesota department of public safety and the city of Duluth entered into an agreement in June of 2000 for the city of Duluth to provide services as a hazardous materials emergency response team for a consideration of $120,000 during the period from June 1, 2000, to June 30, 2001; said agreement identified as State Contract No. A08372 and City Contract No. 18678; and

        WHEREAS, the Minnesota department of public safety and the city of Duluth wish to continue the above-described contract through the next fiscal year, July 1, 2001, through June 30, 2002, for an additional consideration of $40,000;

        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are authorized and directed to enter into an amended agreement with the state of Minnesota, department of public safety, filed as Public Document No. ___________, for the operation by the city fire department of a hazardous materials emergency response team for a consideration from the state of not to exceed $40,000, to be deposited in General Fund 0100, Agency 100, Org. 1505.



STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the Duluth fire department to continue a grant agreement with the Minnesota department of public safety so that it can continue to operate our regional hazardous materials emergency response/ chemical assessment team through June 30, 2002. In Resolution 00-0405, the city council approved the present agreement for $120,000, which expires on June 30, 2001. The amended agreement extends the agreement for an additional year, but at a consideration of $40,000.
