RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH DULUTH PUBLIC SCHOOLS ACADEMY DISTRICT NO. 4020 FOR THE OPERATION OF A SCHOOL POLICE LIAISON PROGRAM IN THE EDISON SCHOOLS.
that the proper city officers are authorized and directed to execute an
agreement between the city of Duluth and Duluth Public Schools Academy
District No. 4020, authorizing the operation of a police-school liaison
program, with DPSA No. 4020 contributing $20,000 and the city contributing
one police officer 20 hours per week during the school year; said agreement
filed as Public Document No. _____________.
In 1999, the city entered into an agreement with Edison schools for a full-time liaison officer at a cost to the school of $45,000 per year. The agreement, which covered the 1999-2000 school year, was for one year within an automatic renewal clause. It was determined through experience that a liaison officer serving 20 hours per week at a cost to the school of $20,000 per year was a more appropriate level of staffing. The liaison officer for the 2000-2001 school year was on a 20 hour per week basis. The agreement replaces the original agreement. The only changes from the original agreement are the amount of time the officer serves (20 hours per week) and the money Edison schools pays the city for the officer ($20,000). The effective date of the contract includes the 2000-2001 school year to adjust the payment to conform to the services that were provided.
