RESOLUTION ADDING AIRPORT ROAD FROM THE DULUTH CITY LIMITS TO THE AIRPORT APPROACH ROAD TO THE MUNICIPAL STATE AID SYSTEM.

BY COUNCILOR ECKENBERG:

        WHEREAS, the city of Duluth established the initial municipal state aid system of streets by resolution approved October 28, 1957, under provisions of Minnesota Law 1957, Chapter 943; and

        WHEREAS, it now appears that revisions in the municipal state aid system are necessary;

        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the city council of the city of Duluth, that portions of the street described as follows be and hereby designed as municipal state aid street of said city of Duluth, subject to the approval of the commissioner of transportation of the state of Minnesota:
                Airport Road - from the Duluth city limits to Airport Approach Road (+) 0.69 miles.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The proposed designation of Airport Road as a municipal state aid street will provide a link between T.H. 53 and Airport Approach Road. The adjacent land is being developed by the Duluth airport authority. Currently, the road provides access to the Naval Reserve building, the University of Minnesota Natural Resources Research building and Cirrus Design Corporation. The ADT (average daily traffic) on Airport Road in May of 2001 was 1,526. This designation will allow the city of Duluth to receive federal money for a joint project with St. Louis County, Mn/DOT, for the improvement of Airport Road, Airport Approach Road and intersection improvements and traffic signals on T.H. 53 and Stebner Road. Total project costs are estimated to be $930,000.
