BY COUNCILOR ECKENBERG:
RESOLUTION PURCHASING A LICENSE
FROM THE STATE OF MINNESOTA DNR TO CONSTRUCT A NATURAL GAS PIPELINE ON
THE MUNGER TRAIL RIGHT-OF-WAY FOR A CONSIDERATION OF $15,529.
RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are authorized to execute an easement
agreement substantially in the form of the agreement filed as Public Document
No. ___, between the city of Duluth and state of Minnesota department of
natural resources wherein the city is granted a license to construct a
pipeline in the Munger Trail right-of-way for a consideration of $15,529;
said money to be paid from Fund 0521, Agency 500, Object 5532.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
This resolution purchases a license from the Minnesota DNR for the 16-inch
supply gas line the city is building from town border station 1A in Wisconsin
to the Lake Superior paper plant. The agreements and maps show where the
pipeline will be located. Numerous factors concerning possible routes were
considered and a route that includes the property subject to this license
was deemed best by the water and gas engineering staff. The permit runs
along approximately 2,200 feet of the Munger Trail. About 800 feet of the
permit area will actually contain gas main and the remainder, which is
adjacent to an alley easement which will contain the main, will be used
for work space during construction. The only crossing of the trail will
be made by underground boring so the trail will not be disturbed.
