RESOLUTION ACCEPTING UP TO $88,491 UNDER THE BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM FOR EXPENDITURES RELATED TO TECHNOLOGY, STAFF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT, DIVERSION AND CRIME PREVENTION INITIATIVES.

BY COUNCILOR STOVER:

        RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are authorized to accept a grant of up to $88,491 from the U.S. department of justice under its local law enforcement block grant program for the period of October 1, 2001, through December 31, 2003.

        RESOLVED FURTHER, that grant monies received pursuant to this grant shall be deposited in Police Grant Programs Fund 0215, Agency 200, Org. 2464.



STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution accepts money from the U.S. department of justice to implement the local law enforcement block grant program. The grant requires a $9,832 match. The grant program provides funds to underwrite projects to reduce crime and improve public safety. This is the sixth consecutive year that the city has participated in this grant. The grant money is allocated as follows: $39,991 technology, $13,000 staff training and development, $22,500 diversion, $13,000 crime prevention. The city's local match is coming from funds forfeited by law violators. The period of this grant is from October 1, 2001, through December 31, 2003.
