RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO ESTABLISH A REGIONAL HAZARDOUS MATERIALS EMERGENCY RESPONSE/CHEMICAL ASSESSMENT TEAM.

BY COUNCILOR FENA:

        RESOLVED, that the Duluth fire department is hereby authorized on behalf of the city to submit a grant proposal to the Minnesota department of public safety, state fire marshal division, division of emergency management, to establish a regional hazardous materials emergency response/chemical assessment team.

        RESOLVED FURTHER, that the Duluth fire chief is hereby designated as the person authorized to administer, on behalf of the city, any contract which may result from submittal of such grant proposal.



STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  For the past five years, the Duluth fire department has, under contract with the Minnesota department of public safety, acted as a regional hazardous materials emergency response/chemical assessment team.  Every five years the department of public safety puts out a new request for proposals from prospective providers of these services.  This resolution authorizes the fire department to submit a proposal to provide the services for another five years.
