RESOLUTION AMENDING AGREEMENT NO. 17911 WITH GDC FOR SKYWALK SECURITY SERVICES EXTENDING THE TERM AND INCREASING THE AMOUNT PAYABLE BY $58,000.

BY COUNCILOR STENBERG:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an amendment to Agreement No. 17911, substantially in the form of that on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. _____, with the Greater Downtown Council for the provision of skywalk security services extending the term of the agreement to run through December 31, 2002, and increasing the amount payable thereunder by $58,000, payable from General Fund 100, Agency 500, Org. 1950, property management division.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The purpose of this resolution is to amend the existing skywalk security contract with the GDC to cover the period of January 1, 2001, through December 31, 2002.

Under this agreement, the GDC secures the services of a private security provider to provide security services in the skywalk leg from the Holiday Center to the Radisson Hotel from 7 P.M. through 1 A.M. The skywalk needs to be open during those hours so that the Radisson rooms can be considered as part of the convention package of the DECC but, as most of the intervening businesses are not open during most of those hours, special security concerns are created.

Therefore, the city has agreed to fund the provision of basic security in this leg of the skywalk during these "down" hours. The rates paid for 2001 are the same as those paid in the previous year. The rates for 2002 are increased by approximately seven percent to $11.65 per hour.
