BY COUNCILOR LITTLE:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby authorized and directed to enter into an agreement with the Duluth police local and with Donald MacMillan, an employee who is a member of the Duluth police local, providing for the retirement of the employee with certain retirement benefits; said agreement to be substantially in the form of Public Document No. __________ on file in the office of the city clerk.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes an agreement with the Duluth police local, and with an employee who is a member of the Duluth police local, providing for the employee to voluntarily retire and to receive certain retirement benefits.
The employee has been approved for a retirement pension under the Public Employees Retirement Association, with a last date of employment of January 16, 2004. In order to allow the employee to retire on this date and in order to resolve any claims related to entitlement to further benefits under the labor contract, such as sick leave and long-term disability benefits, the city has agreed to provide the employee with the retirement benefits which he is entitled to under the labor contract and with limited coverage under the city's retiree hospital-medical insurance plan without requiring the minimum period of employment for the city, as set out in the labor contract.
