ORDINANCE NO. __________

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING CONVEYANCE OF UTILITY EASEMENTS FOR HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL TRANSMISSION LINES TO MINNESOTA POWER AND LIGHT CO. NEAR GARY-NEW DULUTH.

BY COUNCILOR STOVER:

The city of Duluth does ordain:

Section 1. That the proper city officials are hereby authorized to convey an easement for high voltage electrical transmission lines substantially in the form of that on file in the office of the City Clerk as Public Document No. _________________ to Minnesota Power and Light Company over and across the property in St. Louis County, Minnesota, described on said public document for the sum of $8,940, payable to the General Fund 0100, Agency 700, Organization 1448, Revenue Source 4640.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect 30 days from and after its passage and publication.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The purpose of this ordinance is to authorize the conveyance of easements over city-owned land for the extension of high voltage electrical lines over city property as part of the new transmission facilities running from Northern Minnesota into Central Wisconsin.

Minnesota Power presently has easements which they could use to run the new line from the southwestern side of the city to a crossing of the St. Louis river in the vicinity of the Oliver bridge but they would like to able to locate the new facilities in locations more remote to heavily inhabited areas and therefore are requesting easements from the city to implement that plan. The actual new easement areas are shown on the maps attached to the easement document.
