RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH SWL&P TO ACQUIRE AN EASEMENT FOR CATHODIC PROTECTION FACILITIES FOR CITY GAS PIPELINE CONNECTION FOR $1,266.

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to enter into a agreement substantially in the form of that on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. ______________ with Superior Water, Light and Power Company to acquire an easement for installation of cathodic protection facilities for the city's natural gas transmission pipeline facilities in Wisconsin at a cost of not to exceed $1,266, payable from Fund 0521, Agency 500, Object 5532.


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the city to acquire an easement from SWL&P to provide access for construction and maintenance of its new gas transmission pipeline connection running in the state of Wisconsin and to allow the city to install cathodic protection facilities to protect that pipeline facility.

In order to access a second source of natural gas to supply the need of the city and its citizens, the city has been working on connecting to pipeline facilities in Douglas County, Wisconsin. The city currently has an easement sufficient for the pipeline itself but it will need additional easement area which will be necessary to the construction and maintenance of the pipe line and also to the installation of a cathodic protection system which will provide corrosion protection to the pipe line The additional easement to be acquired, consisting of a strip of land ten feet wide by about 440 feet long, is located on land owned by SWL&P.

Pursuant to this agreement, the city will be able to acquire the easement from SWL&P for $1,266 or about $0.29 per square foot.
