RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AFFILIATION AGREEMENT WITH UWS PERTAINING TO ITS LEGAL STUDIES INTERNSHIP PROGRAM.

BY COUNCILOR ATKINS:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to enter into a affiliation agreement substantially in the form of that on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. ____________ with the University of Wisconsin-Superior pertaining to partnering with said institution in its legal studies internship program.


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the execution of an agreement with UWS setting forth the terms and conditions under which the city will be able to partner with the university and receive the services of student interns under its legal studies internship program.

The university has established a legal internship program pursuant to which it gives credit to students interning with local units of government, learning the operations of government on a first hand, hands on basis while providing valuable services to these government entities. The governmental units benefit by received the services of the interns at no out-of-pocket cost.

The agreement provides for the structure under which the university supplies the interns and the structure under which the interns work in the city. Under the agreement, the city supervises and controls the work of the interns which the university provides oversight and review.
