RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE NEW CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF CRIMINAL INTELLIGENCE ANALYST AND SPECIFYING CONTRACT BENEFITS FOR SAME.

BY COUNCILOR JOHNSON:

RESOLVED, that the proposed specifications for the new civil service classification of criminal intelligence analyst, which were approved by the civil service board on June 1, 2004, and which are filed with the city clerk as Public Document No. _____________, are approved; that said classification shall be subject to the city's collective bargaining unit with its basic unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall be Range 131. The proper city officials are authorized to execute and implement an agreement with the union to provide for employing one or more unit members consistent with this resolution.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:   This new classification has been created as the result of a job audit on an information technician position in the police department. The audit showed that the incumbent spends only a small amount of time performing clerical tasks. The majority of time is spent using data analysis techniques to detect crime patterns, create maps, flowcharts and other information that aids in the identification and solution of criminal activity. No existing job classification adequately describes the tasks performed in this position. The pay range negotiated for the classification is Range 131, $3,082 to $3,643 per month.
