BY COUNCILOR STOVER:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into a permit agreement substantially in the form of that on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. __________ with the Adventure Duluth LLC for the Adventure Duluth Racing Adventure to be held on September 25, 2004.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to authorize a permit agreement with Adventure Duluth LLC for the Adventure Duluth Racing Adventure event to be held in the city, including on city property, on September 25, 2004. This would be the second such event in Duluth, the first having occurred in September of 2003.
The event is a multi-disciplinary event involving a one mile swim in Lake Superior followed by a 100 yard run along Park Point, sea kayaking about 11.5 miles up to the Indian Point Campground, about 20 miles of mountain biking along various trails in the western part of the city, ending up at the Riverside community center, 12.25 miles of in-line skating up the Munger Trail to Thompson, canoeing on Thompson Reservoir and the St. Louis River with portaging added in and finishing with a ten mile run through Jay Cooke State Park to Chambers Grove. The participants will take part in teams of two person, three persons or six persons who will compete in different division.
The 2003 event was deemed to be a success, drawing a significant number of participants to the area who were enthusiastic to participate in the event again.
The agreement with Adventure Duluth will allow them to use the city property involved in the race course and will require that they indemnify and insure the city from any liability arising out of the race and the use of the city’s property for it. All teams will be required to participate in a pre-race orientation session which will highlight any areas of special concern.
