BY COUNCILOR LITTLE:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby authorized to execute a subgrant agreement with Safe Haven Shelter for Battered Women (SHS) relating to the U. S. Department of Justice grant to operate a domestic violence response team, which agreement shall be substantially in the form of that on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. ______________________, in an amount not to exceed $93,451, payable from Fund 215, Agency 200, Org. 2470.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes the city to enter into a subgrant agreement with SHS, which will carry out a portion of the grant that the city received to operate a domestic violence response team to better coordinate efforts of various agencies and more effectively handle these cases. The grant funds to be received by SHS will fund one full-time advocate position. Since the project did not get off the ground as early as anticipated due to the restructuring of the police department, as well as delays in federal approval of budget modifications, city staff will be seeking an extension of its grant with the department of justice. If such an extension is granted, the terms of the subgrant contemplate that it may be extended as well.
