AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING CONVEYANCE OF PROPERTY IN WEST DULUTH TO GRANITE WORKS, INC., FOR $54,450.


BY COUNCILOR GILBERT:

The city of Duluth does ordain:

     Section 1. That the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with Granite Works, Inc., which authorizes a conveyance of the below-described property in St. Louis County, Minnesota, by quit claim deed to Granite Works, Inc., for the sum of $54,350; payable to Special Revenue Fund 255-020:

           Lots Seven (7) and Eight (8), Block Two (2) and Lots One (1) to Nineteen (19), inclusive, and Lots Thirty-nine (39) to Forty-six (46), inclusive, Block Three (3), except that part of such lots taken for Highway No. 23, Morgan Park, First Addition, according to the recorded plat thereof.

     Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect 30 days from and after its passage and publication.


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The purpose of this ordinance is to authorize the conveyance to Granite Works, Inc., of city-owned property in Morgan Park located adjacent to the former USX plant “Atlas Cement” site. This will be the first new industrial development in this area as part of the overall plan to create an industrial park using both the city-owned property and the former cement plant property owned by DEDA. The property being sold has access to Commonwealth Avenue. Future sales of sites without frontage on Commonwealth Avenue will require street and utility improvements to meet city codes.
