BY COUNCILOR ATKINS:
WHEREAS, in 1984, the city council passed Resolution 84-0795, supporting the rededication of Veterans’ Evergreen Memorial Drive; and
WHEREAS, that portion of Trunk Highway 23 from Duluth to Brook Park has previously been dedicated as a memorial drive in honor of those from Duluth, St. Louis, Pine and Carlton counties in Minnesota and Douglas County in Wisconsin who served in World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, the men and women of our region of the United States have continued to serve with distinction in military combat wherever needed by our nation, and will continue to so serve.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the city of Duluth gives its full support to the rededication of Veterans’ Evergreen Memorial Drive to honor those individuals from this region of the United States who gave military service to our country in World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Iraq War and all future military conflicts conducted by the government of the United States of America.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution recognizes that all veterans from this region who serve the United States in combat should be honored by the Veterans’ Evergreen Memorial Drive.
