BY COUNCILOR REINERT:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to enter into Amendment No. 1 to Grant Agreement No. 0RP98-30, A41583, a copy of which is on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. __________, with the state of Minnesota, department of natural resources, for improvements to the Hartley Nature Center, extending the term thereof through June 30, 2005.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to authorize an amendment to the grant agreement for improvements to the Hartley Nature Center, extending the term authorized for expenditure of grant proceeds through June 30, 2005.
In 2002, the city received a grant from the Mn/DNR in the amount of $1.4 million for construction of the Hartley Nature Center and related improvements in Hartley Park. The city in turn entered into a lease agreement with Hartley Nature Center, Inc., for the construction, operation and maintenance of the center. In addition, the corporation was to provide substantially all of the local matching funds for the project.
Since that time, construction of the center has been substantially completed, but there are still remaining about $26,600 in state grant funds to be expended. The center believes that they will have spent that amount plus the matching funds by this summer and working with the city have convinced the Mn/DNR to extend the term of the grant through June 30 to allow that to happen. As indicated above, the local matching funds continue to be the responsibility of the center.
