RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A NO-COST AGREEMENT WITH VOLT TECH, INC., FOR TEST TRIAL OF SURGE SUPPRESSION/ VOLTAGE REGULATION EQUIPMENT IN CITY SEWER PUMPING STATIONS.

BY COUNCILOR STOVER:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to enter into an agreement, a copy of which is on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. __________, with Volt Tech, Inc., for the installation, operation and removal of surge suppression/voltage regulation equipment in one of the city’s sewer pumping stations on a test trial basis at no cost to the city.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the city to enter into an agreement with Volt Tech for the installation of five Redi-Volt units in one of the city’s pumping stations for a six month period. The Redi-Volt units are advertised to suppress voltage surges and smooth out the supply of energy to the pumps, thereby allowing the pumps to run cooler and longer and using less energy. The company is trying to carve a bridgehead in this market and so have agreed to install the equipment at an agreed-upon pumping station along with monitoring equipment which will allow them to demonstrate the available cost savings to the city. All costs of installation and maintenance of the equipment will be borne by Volt Tech.

At the end of the contract period, Volt Tech will be required to remove their equipment and restore the premises to its prior condition unless that requirement is waived by the city. If the city determines that the product produced savings which will offset the costs of acquiring, installing and operating the system, the city can then go out for competitive bids for the permanent acquisition and installation of similar equipment, which could include the Redi-Volt equipment.
