BY COUNCILOR STEWART:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby authorized to enter into a lease agreement, substantially in the form of that on file in the office of the city clerk as Public document No. __________, with Midnight Sun Adventure Company for the leasing of substantially all of the Endion Station building for the operation of a retail and adventure guiding business, rents payable therefore being paid to the city’s General Fund under Revenue Source 0100-015-1515-4622.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to authorize execution of a lease agreement with Midnight Sun Adventure Company pursuant to which the city would lease them all of those portions of the Endion Station building not being occupied by the police department to allow them to operate a business centered around adventure guiding and related retail operations.
Midnight Sun is a new company that wishes to specialize in assisting its customers in taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the Northland to enjoy hiking, bicycling, canoeing, kayaking and cross country skiing in and around the city. They propose to specialize in designing expeditions of this type and of varying lengths and in providing the equipment needed for such undertakings on a rented or sold basis. The Endion Station building would be their base of operations.
Under the lease agreement, Midnight Sun would have use of the entire building except the area occupied by the police department. In addition they would have access and use of the city trails near the building and access to the lake. They would be obligated to a lease payment of $1,750 per month which would be increased annually based on increases in the cost of living. In addition, they would pay the taxes on the building and their pro rated share of utilities.
Midnight Sun was selected as a result of an RFP process which included consultation with the chamber and the Canal Park Business Association.
