BY PRESIDENT NESS:
RESOLVED, that the Duluth City Council hereby declares its intent to accept a Minnesota’s Lake Superior coastal program (costal program) grant, subject to a grant of the same by the coastal program to the city and subject to the grant terms being acceptable to the city, for the planning of a living water garden of approximately .5 acres located near the north end of Slip Number 2 at Bayfront and to work with Sweetwater Alliance regarding attainment of the grant.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to declare the city council’s intent with respect to the proposed living water garden. As currently proposed, the water garden would be located near the north end of slip number 2 and occupy approximately .5 acre. Minnesota’s Lake Superior coastal program grant would provide funding for only the planning phase of the living water garden. Certain steps need to be taken before the Coastal Program will provide the city with a grant document for the city council to approve. Such steps include entering into a memorandum of understanding with the Minnesota state historic preservation office.
The purpose of this resolution is to declare the council’s intent to accept the coastal program grant at such time that acceptable terms are offered to the city, to declare its intent that the living water garden be located on approximately .5 acre near the north of Slip Number 2 and to declare its intent to work with Sweetwater Alliance for the attainment of the grant.
