BY COUNCILOR STOVER:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby authorized to reimburse Minnesota Power and Light Company for its actual costs of purchasing and installing, in a manner satisfactory to the city engineer, an automatic source transfer switchgear and necessary connecting facilities to provide an automatic back-up power source to the Lakewood filtration plant and pumping station in an amount of up to $75,000, payable from Fund 0510, Agency 500, Organization 1955, Object 5401.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the city to reimburse Minnesota Power (MP) for the cost of acquiring and installing an automatic source transfer switchgear to serve both the Lakewood water filtration plant and pumping station.
Presently these facilities are served from only one power substation; if anything happens to interrupt the ability of that station or related power lines to serve the Lakewood facilities, they would be disabled until the repairs could be effected.
The installation of this switchgear and related equipment would allow a second power source in the form of a 15 kilovolt underground cable coming from French River to be automatically switched to provide power to the plant and pumping station, thus preventing any interruption of water filtration or pumping.
The resolution authorizes the city to reimburse MP for its actual costs of purchasing and installing the switch and the related facilities.
