BY COUNCILOR STAUBER:
WHEREAS, there is an available fund balance in the tourism taxes fund of the city of Duluth; and
WHEREAS, the city desires to improve its tourist related facilities by purchasing green covers for the city’s golf courses.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that $31,116 be allocated to Golf Fund 503 from existing fund balances in Tourism Tax Fund 258 for the purchase of green covers.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution will authorize the city to transfer $31,116 from the tourism tax fund to the golf fund to pay for the cost of green covers for the city’s golf courses. The golf courses attract golfers throughout the region including hosting several tournaments and offer tourists an alternative attraction. Play by nonresidents is estimated between 6,000 to 10,000 rounds of golf.
Ice storms this past winter caused significant green damage at the Lester Park Golf Course which delayed the opening of the golf course, effected play throughout the summer and increased maintenance costs. The purchase of green covers will help prevent future green damage due to winter weather conditions. The city’s golf courses currently have a deficit cash balance and the transfer of funds to reimburse the golf fund for the cost of green covers is recommended.
