RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO ACCEPT AN EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $40,489 AND TO AUTHORIZE THE PROPER CITY OFFICIALS TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH ST. LOUIS COUNTY.

BY COUNCILOR LITTLE:

     RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are authorized to accept from the United States department of justice, bureau of justice assistance, office of justice programs, an Edward Byrne memorial justice assistance grant in the amount of $40,489 and to execute any documents required to be executed to accept such grant. Funds to be deposited in Fund 215, Agency 200, Organization 2267, Revenue Source 4209-02.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to enter into a memorandum of understanding, a copy of which is on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. __________, with St. Louis County to establish each parties share of the grant proceeds.


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution authorizes the city to accept an Edward Byrne memorial justice assistance grant in the amount of $40,489. This is a joint award with St. Louis county. Proceeds will be used to support the St. Louis County drug court, the first witness program and personnel training. St. Louis County will also use a portion of its share for the purchase of portable radios. There is no requirement of matching funds for this grant. The participating agencies must enter into a memorandum of understanding relating to the distribution of grant monies. This grant was also awarded in 2005.
