BY COUNCILOR KRAUSE:
BE IT RESOLVED, that the city council of the city of Duluth hereby approves the transfer of the following on sale intoxicating liquor license and on sale Sunday license and approves the application of a 2:00 a.m. beverage license for the period ending August 31, 2006, subject to departmental approvals and the payment of sales and property taxes:
Hippo Down the Street, LLC (Carmody Irish Pub), 308 East Superior Street, with Mary Gleason, 50 percent stockholder, and Edmund Gleason, 50 percent stockholder, transferred from Nylen, Magie and Strum Properties (Buena Vista Lounge), 1144 Mesaba Avenue.
Alcohol, gambling and tobacco commission discussion of 3/1/2006: Edmund Gleason and Rick Boo were present on behalf of the application. Mr. Gleason explained that they buying a liquor license to open a new Irish pub and hope to be open by March 15. Mr. Gleason continued saying that he has had experience in managing Irish pubs in other cities and hopes to make this location a cultural center for Irish food and music. To questioning from the commission, Mr. Gleason replied that they will be selling microbrewery beers and selling mostly frozen foods as they will not have a kitchen. To further questioning, Mr. Boo replied that he has had experience in the liquor business when he was involved with the North Shore Theatre. The commission questioned the parking for the business, and Mr. Gleason replied that the parking situation should get some relief once the parking ramp is built for the hotel and medical center. There being no further discussion, Mr. Karki moved that THE APPLICATION OF HIPPO DOWN THE STREET, LLC (CARMODY IRISH PUB), 308 EAST SUPERIOR STREET, FOR TRANSFER OF THE ON SALE INTOXICATING LIQUOR LICENSE AND ON SALE SUNDAY LICENSE AND APPLICATION FOR A 2:00 A.M. BEVERAGE LICENSE FOR THE PERIOD ENDING AUGUST 31, 2006, WITH MARY GLEASON 50 PERCENT STOCKHOLDER, AND EDMUND GLEASON, 50 PERCENT STOCKHOLDER, TRANSFERRED FROM NYLEN, MAGIE AND STRUM PROPERTIES (BUENA VISTA LOUNGE), 1144 MESABA AVENUE, BE APPROVED AND THE SAME BE RECOMMENDED TO THE CITY COUNCIL FOR APPROVAL. Mr. Anderson seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved.
