RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PROPER CITY OFFICIALS TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE STATE OF MINNESOTA, OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY, IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 TO CONDUCT INCREASED SEAT BELT AND CHILD SEAT ENFORCEMENT.

BY COUNCILOR LITTLE:

     RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are authorized to accept a grant from the state of Minnesota, office of traffic safety, in the amount of $5,000 for increased seat belt and child seat enforcement during the month of May 2006 and to execute the grant agreement, a copy of which is on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. ___________; grant funds to be deposited in Fund 100, Agency 200, Organization 1620, Revenue Source 4209-2.


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This grant is part of the state of Minnesota’s safe and sober program. This particular grant will fund overtime costs during the special enforcement period of May 7 through May 13. The special enforcement period will focus on seat belt and child seat use during daylight hours. The participating agencies are city of Duluth, St. Louis County, city of Proctor, city of Hermantown and the University of Minnesota Duluth. The money will cover overtime costs for all participating agencies. The city of Duluth will be acting as the fiscal agent. No matching funds are required.
