BY COUNCILOR KRAUSE:
BE IT RESOLVED, that the city council of the city of Duluth hereby approves issuance of the following temporary on sale intoxicating liquor license by the liquor control commissioner, subject to departmental approvals and any specific restrictions:
Duluth Skyline Rotary Club (Volleyfest), Bayfront Park, for June 24, 2006, with Thomas Meyer, manager.
Alcohol gambling and tobacco commission discussion of 5/3/2006: Jeff Merritt was present on behalf of the application. Mr. Merritt explained that he is a member of Skyline Rotary and he is enlisting the organization to sponsor an all day volleyball tournament at Bayfront on June 24. He continued saying that he hopes to have 40 teams playing volleyball on 8-10 courts while bands perform on the stage. To questioning from the commission, Mr. Merritt continued saying that the event will start approximately 9:00 a.m. and end at approximately 9:00 p.m. He stated that they will be selling beer and wine products and will be using wrist bands to identify the people old enough to drink alcohol. To further questioning, Mr. Merritt stated they will be having one or two off duty police officers working the event. He further stated that the proceeds from this event will to primarily go to the Northland Chapter of the Red Cross along with a few other charities. Officer Latour stated he has approved this application. There being no further discussion, Mr. Hanson moved that THE APPLICATION OF DULUTH SKYLINE ROTARY CLUB (VOLLEYFEST) BAYFRONT PARK, FOR A TEMPORARY ON SALE INTOXICATING LIQUOR LICENSE FOR JUNE 24, 2006, WITH THOMAS MEYER, MANAGER, BE APPROVED, AND THE SAME BE RECOMMENDED TO THE CITY COUNCIL FOR APPROVAL. Mr. Hendrickson seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved.
