BY COUNCILOR JOHNSON:
RESOLVED, that the proposed specifications for the new civil service classification of safety and training specialist, which were approved by the civil service board on April 4, 2006, and which are filed with the city clerk as Public Document No. _____________, are approved; that said classification shall be subject to the city’s collective bargaining unit with its basic unit employees; and that pay range for said classification shall be Range 135. The proper city officials are authorized to execute and implement an agreement with the union to provide for employing one or more unit members consistent with this resolution.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This classification was created as part of a reorganization to improve on-the-job safety, which is a critical component of reducing city medical expenses. It replaces two current safety-related positions which are vacant. The position will report to the safety and training officer and will be responsible for developing and monitoring public works and utilities health and safety training programs and assisting with the development, maintenance and evaluation of citywide health and safety programs and training. The pay range negotiated for the classification is Range 135, $3,941 to $4,618 per month.
