RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION OF TRAFFIC MAINTENANCEPERSON INCLUDING A TITLE CHANGE TO TRAFFIC MAINTENANCE WORKER AND SPECIFYING CONTRACT BENEFITS FOR SAME.

BY COUNCILOR JOHNSON:

     RESOLVED, that the proposed amendments to the specifications for the civil service classification of traffic maintenanceperson, including a title change to traffic maintenance worker, which were approved by the civil service board on October 3, 2006, and which are filed with the city clerk as Public Document No. _______________, are approved. This classification shall be subject to the city’s collective bargaining unit with its basic employees; and that pay range for said classification shall be Range 27. The proper city officials are authorized to execute and implement an agreement with the union to provide for employing one or more unit members consistent with this resolution.


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The job description for traffic maintenanceperson has been revised to reflect changes in technology used in the performance of tasks and to add the task of snow plowing to ensure that there is adequate staffing to meet snow removal needs. The pay rate negotiated for this classification is Pay Range 27, pay rate of $3,052 to $3,609 per month. This is a change from Pay Range 26, pay rate of $2,927 to $ 3,457 per month.
