BY COUNCILOR STAUBER:
RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement, a copy of which is on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. ____________, with the state of Minnesota, office of higher education, to allow the library to participate in the Minnesota Library Information Network (MnLink) as a Gateway server site with all sums received as a result thereof to be paid to Fund 100, Agency 300, Organization 1702, Revenue Source 4654.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to authorize an agreement with the state of Minnesota, office of higher education, approving participation by the city’s library system in the Minnesota Library Information Network (“MnLINK”); under the agreement, the library would become a “Gateway server site.”
MnLINK is a computer network creating the ability for a user to access the online catalogs of most of the major libraries in the state. Most major public and private universities and colleges, both public and private, government libraries, school system libraries and public libraries throughout the state are participating in the network. The network allows persons to search the online catalogs of all participating members from a single site as if they were a single resource.
The state has provided resources to the office of higher education to allocate to participants as part of the program; the city could anticipate a payment of $3,300 this year as a member of the network. The money will be used to fund staff time to support the program. The agreement allows the agreement to be terminated by either party at will and, if terminated, the city would be required to repay a proportionate share of the funds it received.
