RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CITY OFFICIALS TO ACCEPT GRANT MONEY ON A PERIODIC BASIS AND IN VARIOUS UNSPECIFIED AMOUNTS NOT TO EXCEED $10,000 IN 2007 FROM THE MIDWEST ECONOMIC CRIME FOUNDATION AND TO EXECUTE ANY DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO BE EXECUTED TO ACCEPT SUCH GRANT MONEY.

BY COUNCILOR LITTLE:

RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are authorized to accept grant money from the Midwest Economic Crime Foundation, in an amount not to exceed $10,000 in 2007, to be received on a per request basis and in unspecified amounts, and to execute any documents required to be executed to accept such grant money; such funds to be deposited in Fund 215-200-2264-4805.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The Midwest Economic Crime Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides funds to law enforcement agencies to support the investigation of financial crimes, fraud, forgery, identity theft and organized economic crime activity. These funds are then made available to law enforcement agencies in the form of grants. The funds are released as they are available and upon application of the agency. The individual amounts are usually small and require no matching funds. The city intends to use the funds for training, investigation costs, equipment purchases and officer overtime. Because the amounts available are small and are not available on a scheduled basis, the city is presenting this resolution which provides global authority to accept these grants rather than seeking approval of a new resolution each time the city applies for grant monies.
