RESOLUTION ENTERING INTO AN AGREEMENT ACCEPTING $291,569 FROM SENIOR SERVICE AMERICA, INC., TO OPERATE THE SENIOR AIDES PROGRAM FROM JULY 1, 2007, THROUGH JUNE 30, 2008; PROGRAM FUNDS WILL BE ACCEPTED UPON RECEIPT OF NOTICES OF FUNDS AVAILABLE.

BY COUNCILOR NESS:

     RESOLVED, that proper city officials are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement, substantially in the form of that on file with the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. _________________, with Senior Service America, Inc., (SSAI) to serve Duluth residents age 55 and over with work experience training and services pursuant to the Laws of Minnesota, 1967, Chapter 374, in the amount of $291,569 for the period of July 1, 2007, to June 30, 2008. Program funds will be accepted upon receipt of notices of funds available. Monies received shall be deposited in Fund 270, Agency 031, Organization 6330.

     FURTHER RESOLVED, that at the time the city implements its system by which each city program is charged an amount to fund retiree health insurance, which amount is transferred to a fund or trust, the programs funded by this contract will be charged at the same rate and the funds will be transferred and used in the same manner.


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution is to authorize city officials to accept a grant of $291,569 from the Senior Service America, Inc., (SSAI) to provide funds to serve Duluth residents age 55 and over with work experience training and services.


The grant requires a local contribution of $38,108. This entire amount will be provided through in-kind contributions of local agencies and city supervisor and/or indirect costs. Program funds will be accepted upon receipt of notices of funds available. Monies received shall be deposited in Fund 270, Agency 031, Organization 6330.


These funds are allocated under Title V of the Older American Act. The fund will provide part-time work experience and training for a minimum of 43 senior citizens. The grant period is July 1, 2007, to June 30, 2008.
