RESOLUTION DESIGNATING DAY FOLLOWING THANKSGIVING A HOLIDAY; ELIMINATING COLUMBUS DAY.

BY PRESIDENT STOVER:

RESOLVED, that, under authority of M.S.A. §645.44, the council declares that for the purposes of operation of the city government Christopher Columbus Day shall not be a legal holiday and that for the purpose of operation of the city government Friday after Thanksgiving shall be a legal holiday.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The city unions and various officials have indicated a preference for a holiday following Thanksgiving. In 1979, the legislature authorized cities to make such a change.
