RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CITY OFFICIALS TO CONTRACT WITH VIELE CONTRACTING, INC., FOR 13,500 TONS OF CLASS 5 GRAVEL, 400 TONS OF 3/4 INCH CRUSHED WASHED ROCK, 300 TONS OF VARIOUS-SIZED RIP RAP AND 300 TONS OF BEDDING SAND FOR YEAR 2008 AT A TOTAL ESTIMATED AMOUNT OF $100,311.29.

CITY PROPOSAL:

     RESOLVED that city officials are hereby authorized to contract with Viele Contracting, Inc., for the purchase and delivery of 13,500 tons of Class 5 gravel, 400 tons of 3/4 inch crushed washed rock, 300 tons of various sized rip rap and 300 tons of bedding sand as needed during year 2008 for the public works and utilities department in accordance with the city’s specifications and the vendor’s quote of $94,189 plus $6,122.29 sales tax for a total estimated amount of $100,311.29, terms net 30, FOB destination, payable as follows:

     (a)  $40,124.51 from the Water Fund 510, Agency 500, Organization 1945, Object 5224;

     (b)  $10,031.13 from the Gas Fund 520, Agency 500, Organization 1945, Object 5224;

     (c)  $30,093.39 from the Sewer Fund 530, Agency 500, Organization 1945, Object 5224;

     (d)  $20,062.26 from the Stormwater Fund 535, Department/Agency 500, Organization 1945, Object 5224.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes the purchase of various materials from Viele Contracting, Inc., including Class 5 gravel, 3/4 inch crushed washed rock, various-sized rip rap and bedding sand as needed for year 2008 for a total estimated amount of $100,311.29, payable from water, gas, sewer, and stormwater funds.


This material will be used by the department of public works and utilities for various projects during the year. As stated in the original 2007 specifications, prices must remain firm from May 1, 2007, through April 30, 2008.


The purchasing division posted the original request for bids on the city’s website May 1, 2007. Viele Contracting, Inc., from Duluth, Minnesota, submitted the lowest base bid of three received by the closing date of May 15, 2007.
