COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
RESOLVED, that the city council of the city of Duluth hereby approves the 2008 budget and cost sharing formula for the Minneapolis-Duluth/Superior passenger rail alliance, a copy of which is on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. __________, as provided for in paragraph V E. of City Agreement No. 20580.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to accept contributions from the following entities in the following amounts to defray a portion of the city’s cost share as provided for in the aforesaid budget, said sums to be deposited in the Tourism Tax Fund 258:
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the proper city officials are hereby authorized to pay the city’s share of said alliance’s 2008 budget in the amount of $45,000 in conformance with Section VI A. of the aforesaid Agreement No. 20580, said sum to be payable from the Tourism Tax Fund 258, $15,000 allocated from undesignated fund balance and $30,000 allocated from donations.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The purpose of this resolution is to approve the 2008 budget and cost sharing formula for the Minneapolis-Duluth/Superior passenger rail alliance, to authorize payment of the city’s share of the alliance’s costs for 2008 in the amount of $45,000 and to accept contributions to the city’s share in the total amount of $30,000 from other entities which would benefit from the work of the alliance.
The city’s total share of $45,000 would be used by the alliance to fund planning and analysis work preparatory to implementing passenger rail service linking the Twin Ports with Minneapolis/St. Paul.
It is anticipated that Duluth’s share of the alliance’s expenses for next year will be about $57,500 and that that amount may vary in later years as the project is further developed.
