RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTING A GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE IN THE AMOUNT OF $18,315 AND EXECUTING A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH ST. LOUIS COUNTY FOR JOINT USE OF PROCEEDS.

CITY PROPOSAL:

     RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are authorized to accept an Edward Byrne memorial justice assistance grant from the United States department of justice, bureau of justice assistance, office of justice programs, in the amount of $18,315 to be deposited in Fund 215, Agency 200, Organization 2283, Revenue Source 4209-02, and to be used for the St. Louis County drug court and for equipment and training, and to execute all documents related thereto.

     FURTHER RESOLVED, that said officials are authorized to enter into a memorandum of understanding, a copy of which is on file in the office of the city clerk as Public Document No. ______________, to grant $6,000 from said fund to St. Louis County to support the county drug court.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This resolution authorizes the city to accept an Edward Byrne memorial justice assistance grant in the amount of $18,315. This is a joint award with St. Louis County; the county’s portion of this award is $6,000. Duluth police proceeds will be used to support the St. Louis County drug court, equipment and technology acquisition and personnel training. St. Louis County proceeds will be used to support the St. Louis County drug court. There is no requirement of matching funds for this grant. The participating agencies must enter into a memorandum of understanding relating to the distribution of grant monies. This grant was also awarded in 2007.
