STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  This resolution exercises authority granted to municipalities by Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 282, to approve or disapprove of reclassification of tax forfeited lands from conservation to nonconservation upon notification from the board of commissioners from the county in which the lands are located.

On June 2, 2008, the department of planning and development received a list of five tracts (14 parcels) of tax forfeited land reclassified to nonconservation by the Saint Louis County Board of Commissioners. Planning department staff has reviewed all parcels with the city planning commission (at their July 8, 2008, regular meeting) recommending approval of reclassification and sale of all of the five tracts. In conducting the review, staff and the planning commission find no continuing public purpose for retaining these parcels.

This resolution allows for the possible sale of the listed tracts and possibly becoming part of the tax base.
