Public Input

Public Input is vital to the Community Development Program and helps to set goals and priorities for our Division. At various times throughout the year the Department engages the public for their input on various documents and processes.  Community Development Calendar shows upcoming Community Development Committee meetings, comment periods, and other timeline material.

2012 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ONLINE FORUM

We are encouraging everyone to engage in our Online Public Forum. Every few days the Question below will change.  Submit your answer to the question in the Public Forum Comment Form and it will be posted!  This is the schedule for the Online Forum:

Question 1. Posted Monday, May 14th: Last Year the funding categories were broken down by the percentages Housing (39%), Economic Development (13%), Public Facilities (14%), Public Services (15%), and Planning/Administration (20%). Do you agree with these percentages? Would you prefer to shift funds from one category to another? Would you like to see more affordable housing, more job opportunities, etc?

Question 2. Posted Wednesday, May 16th: What barriers are keeping you, or someone you know, from obtaining suitable housing? What type of program or assistance would help most in attaining suitable housing?

Question 3. Posted Friday, May 18th: The city is limited in funding for the Public Services category. This year we funded: Food and clothing, medical/dental care, homeless youth center, homeless shelter programs, supportive housing programs, and transitional housing programs.  Would you place a priority on any of these?  Are there other services that you would like to see funded?  Please explain.

Question 4. Posted Tuesday, May 22nd:  What is the biggest need that you see in your neighborhood? What is the biggest need in Duluth?

I think those are wonderful things to spend money on. Food and clothing are a necessity and a lot of kids don't have just that. They need food to develop correctly and to function further in life, so I think kids should be first priority. People need medical and dental care because if they don't have it they will suffer and look for other ways to make it go away which could be unhealthy. Anything with housing is positive too because a lot of poor people trying to get on to their own two feet instead of relying on others can't afford housing. Housing is outrageously expensive. Kudos to all of the people who helped support and pay for all of these things to help our community!
