On September 7, 2018 the City and partners held a press event celebrating installation of a CD3 Station at Munger Landing to help reduce the spread of aquatic invasive species. The City of Duluth received the unit through donations from Wildlife Forever and state funds through St. Louis County. This project is part of the larger Wildlife Forever Clean Drain Dry Initiative, a statewide campaign to educate outdoor recreational users on how to prevent the spread of invasive species.
The station provides waterless, user operated cleaning equipment and includes a wet/dry vacuum, blower and tethered hand tools that are accessible and user friendly. The waterless boat cleaning station has internet connected technology that allows natural resource managers to track visitor use and functionality. The station is equipped with a digital kiosk that offers cleaning tutorials and can be customized to provide public outreach on Aquatic Invasive Species issues affecting local waterways.
