Current Planning

Current planning focuses on the day-to-day activities of planning and zoning, including assisting residents and businesses develop or redevelop their property and processing land use applications.

Zoning

The Unified Development Chapter of the City of Duluth Legislative Code (UDC) is the official body of rules and regulations to guide land use and development in the City of Duluth.

Revisions to the UDC.  The City of Duluth Planning Division is proposing revisions to the City's zoning code, known as the Unified Development Chapter. Click here for a copy of the proposed amedments being discussed.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission makes recommendations or decisions on land use applications and meets the second Tuesday of every month.

Historic Preservation Commission

The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) designates historic resources and makes decisions on construction/demolition permits for historic properties.

Environmental Assessment Worksheets

The Planning Commission is the Responsible Governmental Unit (RGU) and conducts reviews of Environmental Assessment Worksheets (EAWs).

Small Area Plans & Other Initiatives

Includes Small Area Plans, studies examining future use of Duluth school sites, the Skyline Parkway Corridor Management Plan, and the Woodland Business District Study.

Sign Code

The Planning Division is in the process of updating the sign/advertisment section of the UDC.  Public meetings where held in early February to hear from business, citizens, and other stakeholders.  The intent is to have a rough draft of the revised language avaialbe for citizen comment around mid to late May.  An additional round of public meetings will be held.
