Chief Gordon Ramsay, Duluth Police Department

Gordon Ramsay was appointed Duluth Police Chief by Mayor Herb Bergson in 2006. Chief Ramsay grew up in Duluth and attended Duluth public schools. He graduated from Duluth East High School and is a proud supporter of East athletics. Chief Ramsay began his police career in Wisconsin at the age of 20 and worked there for several years before returning to Duluth. During his career he has held assignments as a patrol officer, school resource officer, investigator, patrol sergeant, field training supervisor, community policing supervisor, training unit supervisor, patrol lieutenant and area commander prior to being promoted to Chief. His extensive community involvement and dedication to community policing played a major role in his appointment.

The Duluth Police Department has 152 sworn officers and 35 support staff with a budget of 18 million dollars. They serve a community of 87,000 with an additional seasonal college population of 24,000. Duluth Police Department is in the final stages of completing a new state of the art headquarters building that is scheduled to open in spring, 2012.
