On Sunday, August 5th 2012 at 9:49 PM Duluth Police were called the 5700 block of Roosevelt Street after a brick was thrown through window of a van parked there. The same suspect was also seen breaking out the window of another vehicle with a shovel and seen inside other vehicles in the area. A Duluth Police Officer arrived on the scene and spotted the suspect inside of a van, the suspect immediately fled on foot eastbound towards the Spirit Valley Mall. A perimeter was set up and a K-9 was called and apprehended the suspect. Initial investigation revealed that at least two vehicles had 3-4 windows broken out in the area.
The suspect was identified as Jacob Merila, a 24 year old, male resident of Duluth. Witnesses identified Merila as the suspect in the vehicle prowls.
Merila was transported to the Saint Louis County Jail and lodged pending formal charges
Of Felony Criminal Damage to Property, Fleeing Police on Foot, Tampering with a Motor Vehicle and Disorderly Conduct. |
