|At 2210 hours last night, the Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a structure fire at 4816 W 6th St. Upon arrival, firefighters found a two story single family dwelling with heavy fire in the attic. All occupants had evacuated after being alerted by an upstairs smoke alarm.
Firefighters from West Duluth, Lincoln Park, Downtown and Gary fought the fire and quickly brought it under control. The fire was contained to the attic space, though the upper level did sustain considerable smoke and water damage.
No injuries were reported, and the damage is estimated at $30,000 to the structure and $20,000 to the contents. The Duluth Fire Marshal's Office is investigating as to origin and cause.
