City of Duluth/WLSSD Relationship

Online in 1978, WLSSD is a the treatment facility for a 500 square mile area. With an 89 million gallon per day treatment capacity, WLSSD serves Duluth, Hermantown, Proctor, Scanlon, Wrenshall, and Duluth North Shore Sanitary District (D/NSSD).

The City of Duluth owns, operates, and maintains its own wastewater collection system. This collection system feeds into WLSSD interceptor lines.
