Utility Responsibilities

The Sanitary Sewer Utility staff provides a variety of services including:
- Regular cleaning of sewer lines
- Responding to emergency and routine customer calls
- Repair of damaged infrastructure
- Improvements to existing structure
- Maintenance of lift station (pumping station) operations
- Televising of sewer lines to identify problems
- Televising to inspect new construction
- Inspections of sewer construction
- Assistance to the public and other agencies with sewer related problems

The utility is also involved in a compliance program to disconnect residential footing drains and remove storm water from the sanitary system (The I/I program).

The Utility Operations Division provides the field staff to support the Utility including Water Quality specialists and Project Coordinators to address specific issues.

Utility employees are encouraged to seek further training and obtain licensing. Each year 50% of the employees participate in additional training opportunities to maintain certifications. In house training is also available to employees. Employees are active participants in professional organizations including holding state, regional and national offices and are encouraged to stay abreast of the latest innovations in equipment and techniques. These opportunities have fostered a proactive team approach in the division.
